FRANK, HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF STIGMATA?

Welcome to my Unholyverse shrine blahblahblahhhhhh MASSIVE WIP LOL

WHAT IS UNHOLYVERSE?

"Religion! Horror! Exorcisms! Piercings! And Gerard is a priest."

Unholyverse is a My Chemical Romance RPF fanfic series written by internet personality Bexless. The series takes heavy inspiration from the (pretty crappy) 1999 movie Stigmata, as well as quite a few other horror movies.

The series follows a bitter piercer named Frank Iero, his affliction with Stigmata-- a manifestation of Jesus' crucifiction on one's body-- after getting a cursed tattoo of the Virgin Mary, and a priest named Gerard Way's devotion to curing Frank.

THE SERIES!

I HAVE BEEN ALL THINGS UNHOLY

I Have Been All Things Unholy is the first work in the series, introducing us to our main characters.

After a horrible day, Frank finds himself at a tattoo shop and decides to get a new tattoo: one of the Virgin Mary surrounded by wings. He feels he knows her upon seeing her face, feels a sense of peace looking at her blank expression... and so, Frank leaves the tattoo shop with new ink on his hand and a weird herbal rub to help it heal (thanks, Luke!). THE CHARACTERS!

FRANK IERO

Frank is the main character of Unholyverse, and works as a piercer for Brian Schechter, though he later works as effectively the "sacrifice" of the group's ... whatever the hell they are. He becomes Stigmatic after getting a tattoo of the Virgin Mary in I Have Been All Things Unholy, though he is a militant athiest and always questions religion, especially when speaking to Gerard. Speaking of Gerard, he spends the entire series totally in love with Gerard, but this doesn't come to any fruition until later in the series.

GERARD WAY

Gerard, brother of Mikey Way, works as a priest for the Catholic church, being a devout Catholic, though not in the way many think-- Gerard, though very devoted to his religion, holds progressive ideas that often go against the views of the church-- leading to his position being demoted after helping a young girl get an abortion. He holds an incredibly expansive and impressive knowledge of the Bible, the church, and religion. He often argues with Frank about Catholicism and the views of the church, though he also provides Frank a literal and metaphorical painkiller, in a way, and later dates him in the series.

MIKEY WAY

Mikey, brother of Gerard Way, works as a sort of clerk for Brian, managing calls and appointments. He is a close friend of Frank's, offering him advice and a shoulder to cry on in heavy times, as well as being one of the first to witness the effects of his Stigmata. He is very affectionate with Gerard, and has mixed feelings about his priesthood, to which Frank tends to agree. He is a bit of a player, often hopping from girl to girl, but eventually finds himself in a long-term relationship with Ray.

RAY TORO

Ray works as a hairdresser for Brian, but later also works as a sort of herbalist/witch/magic wielder when aiding his friends in demon-fighting. Though he often describes himself as "just a hairdresser," he is often one to find solutions to problems the others can't, and is often the voice of reason in the group. WIP

WHY I LOVE UNHOLYVERSE!

I read Unholyverse for the first time in freshman year, if I remember correctly. Frankly, I'm normally not a fan of RPF at all but like.... ohhh my god. UHV is on another LEVEL bro... Genuinely I've reviewed it on my Goodreads and recommended it to so many friends, even ones that don't like MCR to begin with because it's just that good.

Bexless' writing is so incredible to me, their ability to write serious scenes with such emotion as well as comedic ones is so admirable... their RANGE!!!! I also love the way they write dialogue, it all feels so natural and realistic which is so hard to do. The story as well had me totally geeked I am SUCH a sucker for themes of Catholicism and religious trauma especially in a Three Cheers way (which sounds insane but I have a vision you have to trust me.) I'm especially a fan of I Have Been All Things Unholy, the Stigmata plotline is by far my favorite (other than maybe the possessed Gerard bit that was pretty sick.)

I'm very picky about romance in media but I absolutely adore the way it's written in Unholyverse. Obviously Frank and Gerard's whole thing is great ("look at you. Look how He made you."), but Ray and Mikey's romance plotline is sooo dear to me... The whole thing with Mikey being a player and Ray never feeling ready just AAAUGH... my agony. They're my everything.
